When you’re ready, we invite you to take our SNAP Prescreener, a quick way to determine if you are eligible to receive SNAP benefits. This feature allows you to set up an appointment over the phone with our EHC! Call Center. However, the callback is not the only option, and you will have other options on how to proceed if you are eligible for SNAP upon completing the prescreener.
How long do I need to be in the United States before I can apply for SNAP?
You must be in the United States at least five years with your permanent residency to be eligible for SNAP.
If my child is on HUSKY do, they automatically receive SNAP?
No, HUSKY and SNAP have different guidelines to determine eligibility.
I have children born in the United States, would I also qualify for SNAP for myself if I am undocumented?
No, you must be a US citizen or be a permanent resident for more than five years to be eligible for SNAP. Children are eligible to apply.
Why do you need my sponsors’ information if I’m the one seeking assistance?
If you are a non-citizen, the Department of Social Services (DSS), is asking about the sponsor information because this sponsor is legally responsible to take care of you. If you are a citizen, you will be asked to sign a paper with the sponsor information but it will not affect the sponsor.
My spouse lives out of the country but pays the bills, will I be eligible?
You may, if you are still in the income guidelines. DSS will need proof of monthly total income.
